Miami-Dade County, Florida, announced on October 28, 2026, a package of advertising deals with Rockstar Games tied to the release of GTA 6, valued at $3.9 million in total. Miami International Airport, PortMiami and traffic signal boxes across the county will get a Vice City makeover ahead of the game's November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What's in the Miami-Dade deal with Rockstar?

According to the county's press release, the package has two parts. The first is a direct agreement between Rockstar Games and Miami-Dade, which covers the "Welcome to Vice City" display on the roof of the county-owned Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat. The second is a set of ad buys the publisher made through the companies that manage advertising space at Miami International Airport and across the county's transportation system.

In practice, the county is promising themed lighting at the airport and PortMiami, game visuals on the pedestrian walkways linking the airport's parking garages to its terminals, and decorative wraps on select traffic signal cabinets. The county says Rockstar is covering the cost of installing, maintaining and removing its advertising. All designs remain subject to county approval and content guidelines.

Why is Miami getting a GTA 6 makeover?

Vice City, the city at the heart of GTA 6, is a fictional take on Miami, so Rockstar is using the real city to sell its virtual one. That strategy has been on display for weeks: the publisher opened real Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell counters at the Kaseya Center and turned the Miami Heat into "Vice City" for a night.

"These agreements allow us to turn that excitement into additional revenue for our community," said Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. According to WLRN, Rockstar approached the county administration with the partnership. The release also notes that the cities of Miami and Miami Beach have made their own advertising arrangements: temporary banners in Downtown Miami and ads on beach concession equipment in Miami Beach.

Why is the deal controversial?

WLRN reports that Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and County Commissioner J.C. Bermudez criticized the county's embrace of a game that features crime and violence against police. Several commissioners also objected that the administration moved ahead without a full commission vote. The county, for its part, points to how the money will be used: the $975,000 from the Kaseya Center sign will go toward building a public park at Dan Paul Plaza, behind the arena.

Is this Rockstar's biggest marketing push yet?

Rockstar has always gone big on launches, but a US county officially announcing a partnership of this size is rare. The campaign shows just how much anticipation surrounds GTA 6, the release Take-Two has framed as the defining moment of its fiscal year.
