It all started with a Reddit post titled "first physical copy arrived." Its author, who works at a store in Germany, shared the front and back of a still-sealed German-language PS5 case of GTA 6. The leak was picked up by several outlets, including TheGamer, ComicBook.com and RockstarINTEL.

The front of the box doesn't reveal anything new: it uses the official cover art Rockstar unveiled in June. The back is more interesting. It features a story synopsis for Jason and Lucia along with several screenshots described as new, including one of Lucia. The employee couldn't open the case, though, so it's unclear whether it contains a map or a poster. When asked by other users, the poster said nothing could be heard when shaking it.

Is GTA 6 230GB or 212GB?

That's the detail fans are focusing on. According to RockstarINTEL and Twisted Voxel, the feature list on the back of the box says the game requires 230GB of storage. Yet on November 3, when Rockstar announced the November 10 preload date, it said the game would take up to 212GB depending on the console.

There's no official explanation for the 18GB gap. The Reddit poster suggested the extra space could be meant for a future online component, but that's pure speculation. It's also common for a game's required install space to exceed its download size, since files need room to unpack. Until Rockstar says otherwise, the publisher's figure remains the reference: up to 212GB. Still, leaving yourself some extra room on your console is a smart move.

What does "online functionality" on the box mean?

The back of the case reportedly mentions online functionality and in-game purchases, which has reignited speculation about GTA Online. Rockstar still hasn't said anything about it. The studio describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience at launch, and no multiplayer mode is planned for day one.

So these labels should be taken with caution. As TheGamer points out, they don't mean GTA Online will be available on November 19. Online functionality could simply refer to license checks, downloads or game updates. As for in-game purchases, RockstarINTEL suggests they could refer to the option of buying the Ultimate Edition upgrade from within the game. Labels like these appear on the boxes of countless games, including single-player adventures.

Can you play GTA 6 early with a boxed copy?

No. The physical edition of GTA 6 doesn't include a disc, just a download code, as Rockstar has confirmed. A box that reaches a store early won't let anyone launch the game before the official date, which greatly limits the risk of story spoilers. According to RockstarINTEL, boxes have started arriving at some retailers, which can sell them starting November 12.

Around the same time, German retailer MediaMarkt showed a double-sided poster said to come with boxed copies, without a map of Leonida. Rockstar hasn't confirmed that either. The publisher has only announced a free printable poster and map on November 19, followed by a physical poster sold for $0.99 on the Rockstar Store shortly after launch.
